As a wedding photographer there is nothing more exciting than flying somewhere new to photograph a wedding. For Lauren and Warren’s wedding on the Northern Beaches of Sydney I flew down from Byron the day before. I was super excited with their wedding ceremony taking place at Sydney’s iconic Palm Beach and the reception at Moby Dick’s overlooking Whale Beach. Due to the distance I hadn’t had a chance to meet either Lauren or Warren ahead of their wedding day. But as with all the couple’s I seem to end up working with they were incredibly relaxed and seriously great to work with.
The weather was looking a little bit uncertain with rain threatening during the morning of the wedding. Lauren held her nerve and decided to stick with their outdoor ceremony overlooking Pittwater. It paid off with the ceremony taking place with an incredible backdrop and the cloud cover providing cooler conditions. After the ceremony we shot images of the bridal party around Whale Beach, which was perfect, being easily accessible and providing a nice mix of different areas to shoot.
For the evening they opted for a cocktail style reception, which made for plenty of opportunity for them to mingle with their guests and a relaxed atmosphere. With a great live band everyone got up and danced the night away. After their sparkler exit through the tunnel of love, in a first for me as a wedding photographer, I actually drove Warren and Lauren up the hill to their accommodation at Jonah’s so we could finish with an image of them walking into the hotel as husband and wife.
With this being the last wedding for me in 2016, I couldn’t think of a better way to finish the year than by flying to Sydney to work with such a relaxed and considerate couple and capturing their truly special day.
